Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC is seeking Registered Nurses to deliver compassionate ambulatory and inpatient care. You will assess, plan and document nursing care in collaboration with physicians and the care team.

Requirements include a BSN or higher, NC license within 90 days, BLS, and a commitment to professional development; strong teamwork and patient education skills are valued.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher) is required.
• If without BSN, must enroll in BSN within two years and complete within seven years of start date.
• Must have current North Carolina RN licensure (compact license acceptable) and obtain NC license within 90 days.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
• Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, using the nursing process.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators and leadership.
• Collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans and evaluate nursing actions.
• Teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
• Assist other nursing personnel and serve as a team leader.
• Monitor and maintain the environment of care, including equipment and materials.
• Pursue ongoing professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking education.
• Participate in clinical, operational and safety-related performance improvement opportunities.
• Participate in clinic or entity level performance improvement activities.

Department Summary:

We provide services for adults ages 18 and over, including ongoing care for chronic conditions, such as asthma, arthritis, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Same-day appointments are available for patients who are in need of acute care. We address most urgent care concerns.

Job Duties:

• Assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
• Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager, charge nurse or practice manager.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.
• Collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided, document and communicate appropriately nursing actions taken and patient responses.
• Teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
• Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care and serve as a team leader.
• Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
• Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
• Participate in the identification of clinical, operational and safety related performance improvement opportunities.
• Participate in clinic or entity level performance improvement activities.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
• All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within sevenyears of their start date
• Nurses hired at Duke Health with a valid compact license are required to obtain their North Carolina nursing license within 90 days of their start date.
• BLS required.
