Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have an advanced illness or injury requiring timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support the patient's medical condition. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates critical knowledge, skills, and judgement to care for patients requiring complex assessment, therapies, high-intensity interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance.
- Utilizes information and assessment data to anticipate and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Identifies and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused action.
- Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment, interprets electronic displays, and records data such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms.
- Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.
- Assesses patient needs, develops/revises individualized care plans, and evaluates progress towards expected outcomes.
- Builds respectful relationships with all team members and customers, respecting diversity.
- Acts as a patient and family advocate.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, and/or clinician; collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams.
- Supports hospital and nursing department goals and strategies, serving as a role model.
- Considers growth and development principles, assesses patient data, and interprets information to meet age-specific needs.
- Coordinates care, delegates appropriately, and documents patient care accurately and in compliance with standards.
- Prioritizes patient care based on evidence-based standards, practicing effective problem resolution.
- Delegates tasks considering patient needs and team capabilities.
- Communicates effectively about patient conditions and unit concerns, providing compassionate care.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Collaborates with education and leadership to support new team members and students.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per policies and standards.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.

Education/Training
- Graduate of an approved nursing school.
- Meets all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
- Current Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate license.
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications required for certain areas, with NRP required for NICU.
Experience
- One year of ICU experience preferred.
