Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball is hiring a Perianesthesia Registered Nurse (RN) to provide age-specific, culturally competent care to patients undergoing or recovering from anesthesia. The RN assesses patients preoperatively and collaborates with the physician and anesthesiologist to prepare for procedures and ensure safe care.

Qualifications

• Education required for state registered nurse license.
• BSN preferred; 1 year experience in related clinical area.
• Current Texas RN license; BLS, ACLS, PALS required or as per policy.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients before surgery.
• Provide patient and family education around peri-operative process.
• Prepare patient including IV therapy and preoperative meds.
• Participate in surgical site verification and time-out procedures.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practices.
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor and document changes.
• Educate patients and families about medical condition, treatment and follow-up.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Perianesthesia Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing individualized, age specific, culturally competent care to patients undergoing or recovering from anesthesia. Preoperatively, the RN obtains a health history and assesses the patient to establish a baseline. The RN also works with the physician and anesthesiologist to ensure each patient is appropriately readied for their procedure. Postoperatively, the RN provides extensive care until the patient is safely able to transfer to the next level of care, including home. The RN manages postoperative pain, nausea, and thermoregulation. The RN delegates tasks to the licensed and unlicensed personnel according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.

What you will do in this role

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more
• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
• Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

Qualifications

• Education required for state registered nurse license
• BSN preferred Experience
• 1 year experience in related clinical area
• Current Texas RN license
• BLS; ACLS; PALS
