Job Description

The RN II works in the Cardiac Step-Down Unit on the Saints Campus, providing nursing care during a 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM night shift as part of a full-time, 36‑hour work week.

Minimum Qualifications

• Massachusetts RN Licensure.
• 12 months – less than 3 years of RN experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Department‑specific certification(s) relevant to the type of patient care may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Levels

• Level I – 0 to less than 12 months of RN experience.
• Level II – 12 months to less than 3 years of RN experience.
• Level III – 3 to less than 8 years of RN experience.
• Level IV – 8 years of RN experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Integrate evidence-based practice and research into clinical care.
• Conduct and document accurate clinical assessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
• Use professional nursing judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessment.
• Manage patient assignments by delegating based on patient needs and team skill sets.
• Develop comprehensive educational plans for patients and families, using appropriate resources.
• Support patient and family rights through informed decision‑making, including advanced directives.
• Continuously evaluate and revise care plans as patient health status changes.
• Develop comprehensive discharge plans, including community resource referrals.
• Support and mentor new staff members and facilitate their transition into the unit.
• Provide precepting to guide professional growth of department staff.
• Engage in professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate education.
• Participate in departmental committees as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting of 30–35 lbs and turning patients.
• Prolonged standing and walking.
• Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
• Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals.
• Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
• Requires fine manual dexterity to lift and maneuver patients.
• Requires visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.
