Job summary

HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s in Denver seeks a Pediatric CVOR Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care for pediatric cardiovascular procedures. You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure safe care across the surgical continuum.

The role requires BCLS/ACLS and PALS within 60 days, active RN licensure, and at least 1 year CVOR experience.

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 60 days
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 60 days
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Registered Nurse Associate Degree or Diploma required
  • 1+ year CVOR experience required

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery
  • Provide patient and family education about the procedure and peri-operative process
  • Prepare patients including IV therapy, preoperative meds, and site verification
  • Participate in surgical site verification per hospital policy
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practices
  • Work as part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
  • Apply the nursing process with critical thinking and leadership
  • Monitor patient condition and document changes during the shift
  • Educate patients and families about condition, treatment and follow-up

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse delivers high-quality, patient-centered care to pediatric patients undergoing cardiovascular surgical procedures. This role requires specialized clinical expertise and a deep understanding of the unique needs of pediatric cardiac patients. The RN collaborates closely with pediatric cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and the broader perioperative team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care throughout the surgical continuum.

Utilizing established nursing frameworks such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage,” the RN provides individualized care that supports optimal surgical outcomes. The RN advocates for the safety and well-being of patients and their families, ensuring that care is developmentally appropriate and emotionally supportive. This role also upholds the organization's mission, vision, and values by fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement in the pediatric CVOR environment.

Position Details:
  • Self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance for you to have predictability in your schedule

  • Culture of mutual respect and collaboration among all surgical staff

  • Continuous investment in equipment including surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning for you to do your best work with patient safety and workflow efficiency in the Operating Room

  • Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement

  • On-call is required during select non-business hours

What you will do in this role:
  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery

  • Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process

  • Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification

  • Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy

  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more

  • Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients

  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly

  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 days

  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 60 days

  • (RN) Registered Nurse

  • Registered Nurse Associates Degree or Diploma required

  • 1+ year of CVOR experience required
