Job summary

McLean Hospital is seeking a 20-hour weekend Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care on the NB2 community reintegration unit within a psychiatric inpatient setting. You will apply the nursing process, monitor patient status, and collaborate with the care team to support recovery goals.

The role requires an RN license (BSN preferred) with comfort delivering point-of-care testing, accurate documentation, and safe medication administration.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • RN license required; BSN preferred.
  • One year medical/psychiatric experience preferred; or none.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • Proficient with nursing process and electronic systems.

Job Summary

20-hr WEEKEND PACKAGE Summary Utilizing the nursing process, responsibility for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital and regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions:
  • Accurately assesses patients’ needs.
  • Utilizes multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status.
  • Utilizes Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths.
  • Performs point of care testing.
  • Communicates findings effectively to members of the healthcare team.
  • Documentation reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions.
  • Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate a crisis situation.
  • Accurately plans nursing interventions for assigned patients.
  • Modifies and individualizes Nursing Plan of Care and protocols.
  • Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs.
  • Partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
  • Provides and implements nursing care interventions.
  • Establishes a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates safe, accurate and timely medication administration using BMV scanning.
  • Reviews physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
  • Participates in leading patient groups.
  • Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions.
  • Documentation on the Nursing Plan of Care, protocols, and Assessment Flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions.
  • Accurately communicates patients’ clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports.
  • Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
  • Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care.
  • Provides direction and supervision of MHSs.
  • Delegate care interventions.
  • Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Promotes/provides for critical incident de-briefing following emergency event.
  • Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately.
  • Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others.
  • Provides health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals.
  • Documents teaching in the patient’s record.
  • Informs treatment team of patients and significant others’ learning needs.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency.
  • Completes mandatory in-service requirements.
  • Maintains competency for treating patient population.
  • Seeks constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communicates positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff.
  • Present self in a positive and professional manner.
  • Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit.
  • Demonstrates effective time management.
  • Demonstrates economical management of services and supplies.
  • Notifies shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.
Qualifications Education

Other Certificate/Diploma Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred

Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required

Experience: No experience required; one year medical/psychiatric experience preferred 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to utilize the nursing process and to work collaboratively.
  • MR safety certification.
  • Standard blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement). (Required).
  • Ability to work as part of a team. (Required).
  • All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes. (Required).
Additional Job Details (if applicable)

The community reintegration unit (NB2) is an adult generalized inpatient unit in the psychotic division. This includes all adult ages and diagnosis. Our focus is to stabilize patients with milieu and medication management along with group therapy and return them to the community.
