Intermountain Healthcare Inc. is seeking an experienced Command Center Registered Nurse to oversee bed management and transfer center operations in a high-throughput setting.

The role requires strong clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills to support referrals, transfers, and bed placement in a timely, safe manner. This position is based at Peaks Regional Office in Colorado with on-site responsibilities and potential on-call duties.

Qualifications

• BLS-HCP certification at hire or within 60 days with approval

Responsibilities

• Assess, direct and coordinate transfers and admissions from various settings to appropriate accepting service/facility/level of care
• Facilitate patient placement by assessing diagnosis, acuity, location, risk factors and bed availability
• Collaborate with facility departments, medical/nursing staff, and leadership to ensure timely patient placement and address bed capacity issues
• Use capacity dashboards and real-time indicators to predict placement pressure and participate in surge-capacity protocols to accelerate throughput
• Assist with patient logistics (pre-registration, transportation, bed planning) and collect data for placement
• Maintain regulatory compliance (e.g., Stark, EMTALA) and keep current with applicable requirements
• Provide timely transfer/admission documentation
• Work with providers/stakeholders to develop and maintain transfer/admission pathways
• Delegate to Transfer Center Tech, Patient Placement Specialist, EMS Liaison as needed
• Promote Intermountain Health mission/values and service behavior standards
• Perform other duties as assigned
• May be on-call during scheduled shifts

Job Description:

The Command Center Registered Nurse is responsible for executing all aspects of bed management and transfer center operations in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements. The scope is inclusive of patient access, placement, transfers and bed management. Uses clinical knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills to support the Command Center in providing a reliable, high-quality service that allows referrals, transfers, and other healthcare settings to be accepted in an efficient and timely manner.

Essential Functions

• Assesses, directs and coordinates transfers and admissions from physician offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings to the most appropriate accepting service, facility, and level of care.
• Facilitates patient placement by assessing patient diagnosis, acuity and location, applicable risk factors and unit criteria / bed availability.
• Collaborates with the facility departments, medical staff, nursing staff, and leadership to promote appropriate, timely patient placement so that patient care is not delayed. Collaborates with facility staff to identify and communicate bed capacity issues.
• Leverages capacity dashboards and other real-time indicators to predict future patient placement pressure points and participates in the execution of surge-capacity protocols; and initiating interventions, within scope of practice, to accelerate patient flow or other mitigating barriers to optimal throughput.
• Assists with all aspects of patient logistics to include pre-registration, transportation, and bed planning; collects unit specific data, and information needed to access and place patients appropriately.
• Adheres to regulatory compliance with all Command Center operations, including Stark, EMTALA, and any other pertinent to Call Center activities. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting operations of the Command Center.
• Provides timely and accurate transfer and admission documentation.
• Works collaboratively with our providers and key stakeholders in the development and maintenance of transfer and admission pathways for our patients.
• Delegates as needed to the Transfer Center Tech, Patient Placement Specialist, and EMS Liaison.
• Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree of Nursing (BSN)
• Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
• Minimum five years RN experience in either ED, ICU and / or five years acute care inpatient nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS, PALS
• A specialty certification (CCRN, PCCN, MSRN, or CEN)
• Critical Care or ED background.
• Experience as a Hospital Supervisor, Charge Nurse or previous transfer center experience.
• Experience with hospital throughput or capacity management.
• Experience with Command Center operations, knowledge of Epic and / or TeleTracking.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
• Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

Compensation

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
