Job description

Summary

The Close to Me Infusion care delivery nurse will provide anti-cancer therapy services at three unique locations: Community Based Outpatient Clinics, mobile infusion units, and patient homes. This service aims to reduce travel time for Veterans, improve VA care continuity, and increase access points to Veteran-Centric care.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • English Language Proficiency
  • In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE)
  • OR enrolled in a master's level bridge program in nursing, with opportunity to become registered prior to completion
  • Upon licensure, may be appointed temporarily and converted to permanent
  • Foreign-educated nurses must possess current unrestricted registration and may require degree validation
  • Current unrestricted RN license in the US
  • Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception available while pursuing licensure
  • Preferred: BSN with 3-5 years experience, OCN certification, infusion/oncology experience

Grade Determinations: Details on education and experience requirements for various nurse levels are provided, including Nurse I, II, and III, with specific criteria for each.

Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, hearing, manual dexterity, ability to perform long periods of standing/walking, patient transfer, exposure to infectious materials, hazardous medications, and potential exposure to combative patients. Must complete annual health requirements and operate a government vehicle as needed.

  • Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care in various settings, including CBOCs and home visits
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve patient outcomes
  • Conduct assessments, document in EHR, monitor patient care, and manage medical procedures
  • Administer antineoplastic drugs, manage medical waste, and oversee infusion treatments
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, and decision-making skills
  • Provide education, triage patient problems, evaluate outcomes, and ensure high-quality evidence-based care
