POSITION SUMMARY

Plans, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care in a timely and accurate manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education / Training:

  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
  • Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university.
  • Must respond to hospital within thirty minutes for “on call” requirements.
  • Previous Surgery experience.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire.

Workplace Experience: Perioperative Care

Equipment and Skills Training:

The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to various settings. Equipment includes tools for general, AEM, genitourinary, lithotripsy, ophthalmologic/Phacoemulsification/I&A, plastic, orthopedic, ENT, obstetric/gynecologic, vascular, oral surgeries, autoclaves, computer systems, medication systems, and communication lines.

Physical Environment: Surgical unit with a diverse patient age range from infants to elderly.

Physical Effort:

  • Must communicate effectively in English.
  • Prolonged standing and working up to twelve hours.
  • Push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
  • Lift and turn patients up to 250 lbs. with assistance.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop age-specific care plans.
  • Prepare and organize equipment and supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain sterile fields and follow aseptic techniques.
  • Perform accurate counts and handle specimens and medications safely.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning and monitor the OR environment.
  • Manage supplies and equipment, document charges, and assist in staff development.
  • Communicate effectively and adhere to policies and procedures.
