Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a Stress-testing Nurse to deliver nursing care in the Cardio Non-Invasive unit. The role operates days, 7:00am-3:30pm, with a biweekly 80-hour schedule and on-call requirements.

You will perform pre-test assessments, manage IV access and medications, monitor vitals and patient status, and collaborate with cardiology staff to ensure safe testing. Qualified candidates are graduates of an accredited nursing program with Michigan RN licensure, BLS, and ACLS

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as Healthcare Provider.
• ACLS required for specified critical care areas within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Patient assessment — focused pre-test assessment including vitals, symptoms, cardiac history, medications, and contraindications.
• IV access — starts and manages IV lines for pharmacologic stress agents and emergency medications.
• Medication administration — administers stress agents and monitors for adverse reactions.
• Continuous monitoring — monitors ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and patient symptoms throughout the test.
• Emergency readiness — recognizes arrhythmias, ischemic changes, hypotension, or distress; initiates ACLS protocols if needed.
• Patient education — explains procedures, expectations, and post-test instructions.
• Documentation — documents vitals, symptoms, medications, and interventions in real time.
• Collaboration with providers — works with cardiologists, APPs, and technologists to ensure safe and accurate testing.

Core Responsibilities Of a Stress‑testing Nurse

• Patient assessment — Performs a focused pre‑test assessment: vitals, symptoms, cardiac history, medications, and contraindications. Ensures the patient is clinically appropriate for testing.
• IV access — Starts and manages IV lines for pharmacologic stress agents (e.g., Lexiscan, Dobutamine) and emergency medications.
• Medication administration — Safely administers stress agents and monitors for adverse reactions.
• Continuous monitoring — Monitors ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and patient symptoms throughout the test.
• Emergency readiness — Recognizes arrhythmias, ischemic changes, hypotension, or distress. Initiates ACLS protocols if needed.
• Patient education — Explains the procedure, expectations, and post‑test instructions.
• Documentation — Documents vitals, symptoms, medications, and any interventions in real time.
• Collaboration with providers — Works closely with cardiologists, APPs, and technologists to ensure safe and accurate testing.

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Experience in a specialty area will be considered. Experience specific to the unit/position may be required to maintain overall competency level of unit, as required by regulatory agency.
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification as Healthcare Provider.
• Within six months of hire into department, ACLS required for RNs in Critical Care, Emergency, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Intensive Care Unit and Step-Down, Telemetry Floats. NRP required for RNs in Labor and Delivery; and PALS required for RNs in Pediatrics; PALS and TNCC within one year for the Emergency Department.

Preferred:

• One year of professional nursing experience.
• ACLS preferred in other units.
