Purpose & Scope:
Across all levels, the registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of their assigned patients. The RN is also responsible for supervising assigned personnel. The position requires knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care. Interpretive skills, interactive and consultative abilities, along with management and supervisory skills, are essential. The ability to communicate effectively in written, auditory, or visual formats is crucial. The primary mode of communication is spoken word, supported by written, telephone, and manual skills.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of nursing or patient care experience in an acute care setting.
Certification/Licensure:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or holding a Compact State Nursing License is required.
BLS certification is mandatory.
Designated units require maintaining specific certifications. New nurses or graduates have one year to obtain these specialties:
Per policy, ACLS or PALS certification demonstrates competence in BLS skills according to American Heart Association guidelines. Current ACLS or PALS certification satisfies BLS requirements; a separate BLS card is not necessary.
