Job Description

The Registered Nurse BSN embodies the attributes of the Relationship Based Care model and performs core nursing functions. Under departmental leadership, reflects NM's mission, vision, and values, adheres to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, our Code of Ethics, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities
Care Coordination
  • Perform comprehensive assessments on assigned patients and document findings.
  • Communicate changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Use nursing diagnoses and assessment data to set measurable goals and modify care plans as needed.
  • Prioritize patient needs and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members in planning and discharge processes.
  • Evaluate patient responses to interventions and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Ensure discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and patient education are completed.
Patient Education, Ethics, and Diversity
  • Support patient and family needs, utilizing appropriate teaching methods and cultural considerations.
  • Use teach-back techniques and distribute educational materials.
  • Respect patient dignity and adhere to ethical standards; call for ethics consults when necessary.
EBP and Research
  • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions.
  • Engage in professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
Safe Environment
  • Administer medications safely using barcode technology.
  • Maintain a safe environment and participate in quality metrics and safety initiatives.
Colleague Relationships
  • Supervise and coordinate care provided by others, demonstrating leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for staff and students.
Resource Utilization & Technology
  • Ensure appropriate care documentation and resource use.
  • Utilize hospital systems and participate in technology and record management activities.
Self-Development
  • Participate in professional growth activities, obtain certifications, and adhere to professional standards.
Qualifications

Required: BSN, Illinois RN license, BLS certification.

Preferred: Specialty certification, strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, analytic abilities, and commitment to obtaining a BSN if currently an ADN.
