Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse/BSN/Clinical Instructor

This position entails duties as the leader of the floor team. As floor team lead, this individual will train and supervise students in clinical nursing programs. As clinical faculty to new staff and students, she will ensure they are oriented to policies and practices and competent to work independently. The nurse manager will also serve as adjunct faculty for participating Nursing programs in support of clinical rotation learning experiences.

  • Provide nursing care to the elderly patient population with Charge Nurse responsibilities
  • Delegate and supervise clinical care delivered by the licensed practical nurse and the nursing assistants assigned to patients on the unit. Review and sign off on any assessments and care plans that have been completed by a licensed practical nurse. Assist in emergency situations. Ensure policy and practice standards are being adhered to. Provide clinical support as needed to staff members. Ensure that care plans are being followed and update with the care team as needed to reflect changes in condition.
  • Assess patient conditions and provide support to care staff to ensure high-quality care is being delivered. Provide feedback to team members on ways to improve care. Identify improvement opportunities. Works with the floor manager on process improvement strategies.
  • Oversees care coordination and care planning of assigned case load of patients. Includes facilitating meetings with families and other multidisciplinary team members, such as life enhancement and dietary.
  • Education Responsibilities
  • Serves as a clinical faculty and mentor/coach for new staff and students in clinical nursing programs. May include a combination of the following:
  • Educate and evaluate new nurses to ensure implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Facilitate professional growth with clinical practice by assessing knowledge and providing educational support through case study reviews, competency evaluation, and hands-on training. Educational instruction can be achieved on the unit and/or through the simulation lab.
  • Monitor new nurses to the nursing team and environment of care through ongoing check-ins (weekly and then as needed until acclimated).
  • Create a safe and positive working environment by role-modeling behavior and assisting staff members to actively solve problems, provide solutions, and offer responses.
  • Develop communication skills and facilitate understanding of systems thinking.
  • Adjunct faculty for established school partnerships and provide faculty instruction for clinical rotation on-site.
  • Collaborates with professional development staff to support educational initiatives:
  • Basic Life Support Instructor
  • IV insertion and maintenance expert
  • Dementia specialist (teaching dementia course)
  • Safe patient handling expert (teaches techniques)
  • Wound expert (teach skills and policy as requested)
  • Communication Skills (teaches various training classes)
