Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain a safe environment, including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking educational opportunities.
  • Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and learners.
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of scope of practice for RN, LPN, and unlicensed staff.
  • Knowledge and application of the nursing process.
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of patients and families.
  • Ability to seek resources and work collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, healthcare team, and leadership.
  • Ability to teach patients and families.
  • Competence in BLS and other specialized life support as designated.
  • Proficiency in documentation and computer use.
  • Ability to navigate clinical environment and perform treatments.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Pre-employment physical capacity testing required.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited BSN program required. Appropriate clinical experience (minimum 12 months) required. Current RN licensure in North Carolina and BLS certification required.
