Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services seeks a Registered Nurse for behavioral health to serve at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln. Starting wage is $50.00 per hour with a $3.00 per hour differential for applicable hours, under limited supervision, performing assessments, care planning, medication administration, and crisis intervention while ensuring safety and security.

Responsibilities include nursing inmates with mental health and substance use issues, coordinating care

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Nebraska or compact licensure.
• 1–3 years of psychiatric or behavioral health nursing preferred.
• Correctional or secure healthcare experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
• Complete four to eight weeks of on-the-job training; pass pre-employment medical exam and drug test.

Job Description

Starting wage $50.000/hour. Additional $3/hour facility differential for hours worked.

Under limited supervision of a Nursing Director/Associate or Nurse Supervisor, provides nursing care to incarcerated individuals with behavioral health conditions, including but not limited to mental health disorders and substance abuse issues. The role involves performing assessments, developing care plans, administering medications, and offering crisis intervention while maintaining safety and security within the facility.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications : A current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska.
• Preferred Qualifications : Experience in assigning, reviewing, leading, or supervising the work of others. Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience as a registered nurse, preferably with a background in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing. Experience in a correctional or secure healthcare environment is highly preferred.
• Other : Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training. Must submit to background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.
