Summary
The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their designated units. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE) at the time of program completion.
- Alternatively, candidates in a master's level bridge program with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing may become registered nurses prior to completing the program.
- Upon licensing, individuals may be appointed temporarily and later converted to permanent status.
- Foreign nursing graduates must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration.
- Foreign education higher than an associate degree requires degree equivalency validation.
- Current unrestricted RN license in a U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) candidates without licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure, with possible extensions.
Grade Determinations:
The following scope, education, and dimension criteria determine grade assignment:
- Nurse I - Level I: Associate Degree or Diploma; delivers fundamental knowledge-based care.
- Nurse I - Level II: ADN/Diploma + 1 year experience or BSN; demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts.
- Nurse I - Level III: ADN/Diploma + 2 years experience or BSN + 1 year experience or MSN; demonstrates proficiency and goal setting.
- Nurse II: BSN + 2 years or MSN + 1 year or related degrees; demonstrates leadership in holistic care.
- Nurse III: MSN + 2 years or related degrees + experience; demonstrates leadership and management of complex care.
Physical Requirements: Long periods of standing, walking, heavy lifting, positioning, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy loads. Ability to sit for extended periods and maintain physical endurance for an 8-hour shift.
Duties
- Provides direction and supervision of staff orientation, training, and development.
- Evaluates staff performance and contributes to care coordination focusing on patient education and satisfaction.
- Acts as a role model, educator, practitioner, and leader, fostering teamwork and accountability.
- Conducts audits, ensures training and competencies, and manages day-to-day guidance and training.
- Makes decisions under pressure, handles multiple demands, and resolves conflicts effectively.
