The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing their skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. They are responsible for quality communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. Additionally, they direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse III (RN III) is responsible for the care of their assigned patient population. An RN III must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibilities such as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, and engaging in educational activities. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st, including validation of participation in committees and other activities. The RN III routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer reviews, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
