Responsibilities

Overview

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within assigned areas utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in Inpatient Rehab settings in Memphis, TN.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care according to medical regimens and established standards, policies and procedures, including care of ambulatory practice patients.
• Initiates assessment based on the patient’s presenting problems or needs, physician diagnosis, and functional health framework at visit.
• Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports; ensures necessary consents are signed and identification procedures are carried out.
• Determines nursing diagnoses and priorities for care with emphasis on patient teaching, discharge planning, and developmental needs.
• Determines applicable standards of care and practice for the patient and documents assessment findings and clinical judgments.
• Demonstrates knowledge, technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills to provide care and meet age-specific patient needs within the unit.
• Performs ongoing assessments, reprioritizes care based on new information, updates nursing diagnoses, and involves family and/or significant individuals as appropriate.
• Plans and implements care of assigned patients; performs therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the physician; adheres to standards of care and unit policies.
• Prepares patients for examinations/procedures, assists during procedures, administers medications/treatments as permitted, and monitors patient responses; initiates corrective action for adverse symptoms.
• Coordinates patient referrals and provides patient education; maintains patient medical records and documents care provided.
• Collaborates with patient/family/hospital staff to address patient needs in a courteous, compliant manner and supports patient satisfaction initiatives.
• Supervises and provides instruction to LPNs and other support personnel; participates in orientation and supervision of new staff and students as part of training.
• Transports monitored patients, specimens, equipment and supplies as needed; collaborates with forensic and security teams to maintain a safe environment for patients in custody.
• Participates in required continuous training and education; attends mandatory in-services and contributes to performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment and adheres to policies on quality improvement, safety, infection control, and compliance; prepares required records and reports for administrative purposes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved nursing program (Required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
• RN – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure to work in Tennessee (Upon Hire Required)
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) Certification (Upon Hire Required)
• Experience caring for patients in an inpatient setting; ability to work with school-age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations as required
