Job summary

Summit Cancer Care is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide holistic cancer care within the Effingham Cancer Care Center. You will assess, plan, and implement nursing care in collaboration with physicians, APPs, and pharmacy staff.

The role includes managing treatment side effects, educating patients and families, and ensuring documentation in Cerner EMR is accurate and timely. Strong certification and oncology experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing is required.

  • Evaluate side effects, toxicity, vital signs, and lab data tied to treatment; manage problems.
  • Educate patients and their families about disease, treatment navigation, side effects, and self-care.
  • Administer immunotherapy/chemotherapy and supportive meds per physician orders and safety protocols.
  • Administer blood products and other therapies as ordered.
  • Document care in Cerner EMR accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate care with other offices and refer patients to resources.
  • Maintain current certifications and licenses; comply with regulations.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Effingham Cancer Care Center Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse assesses, plans, and provides holistic nursing care to patients. Works to continually improve patient satisfaction and process efficiency.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Provides safe and effective nursing care through assessment, identification of problem list / nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients’ health and performance status in conjunction with the physicians, APPs, and pharmacy staff.
  • Evaluates side effects, toxicity, vital signs, and lab data related to disease process and treatment in conjunction with the physician / APP and provides appropriate management of these problems.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding the disease process, treatment navigation, treatment side effects and plan for management, self-care measures, and venous access devices.
  • Administers immunotherapy / chemotherapy and supportive medications as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with ASCO / ONS protocols and safety standards.
  • Administers blood products and other therapies as ordered.
  • Assures patient care documentation is completed and entered accurately into electronic medical record (Cerner) in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates care with other physician’s offices and refers patients to appropriate hospital / community resources.
  • Maintains current certifications / licenses as outlined below.
  • Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Maintains collaborative working relationship with all other employees.
  • Upholds strictest confidentiality.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Associate degree in Nursing (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred)
Experience
  • 1 - 2 years of direct patient nursing care (required)
  • 1 - 2 years of direct Oncology patient nursing care (preferred)
  • 2 - 3 years of direct patient nursing care (preferred)
Certification / License
  • Georgia State Registered Nurse License or Nurse Licensure Compact (required)
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification Required
  • BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association (required)
  • ONCC Oncology Certified Nurse OCN (preferred)
Independent Action

Under general direction, functions independently in coordination of assigned duties. Refers to the Effingham Cancer Care Center Nurse Manager as appropriate on clarification of practice policy and procedure.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Human Relations / Customer Communications

Communicate verbally and written with employees, physicians, patients, patient family members, and the public as a representative of the practice.

Personal Protective Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the practice and must be worn when there is a reasonable risk of occupational exposure to hazardous drugs, blood, or body fluids.

Occupational Exposure Statement

High risk for contact with hazardous drugs, blood, and body fluids for this position. Use of PPE and Universal Precautions is required.
