Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the RN is responsible for delivering patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role involves leading and guiding nursing staff, maintaining standards of care, and utilizing electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

1. Assess physical, psychological, and psychosocial health of patients.
2. Apply knowledge of illnesses and injuries in patient assessment.
3. Provide leadership to nursing staff involved in patient care.
4. Monitor medication administration and maintain records.
5. Use therapeutic communication to gather information and make referrals.
6. Implement nursing services in accordance with standards and policies.
7. Make timely referrals to healthcare providers based on assessments.
8. Coordinate medication orders with physicians.
9. Demonstrate pharmacology knowledge, including drug reactions and interactions.
10. Administer medications safely and accurately, maintaining proper documentation.
11. Participate in training staff on mental health topics as per standards.
12. Comply with correctional facility policies and procedures.
13. Perform duties within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act and ethical standards.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned after training.

Minimum Requirements

• Licensure: Valid IL State Registered Nursing License
• Certification: Current CPR certification (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute)
• Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Experience: Minimum one year of clinical experience; correctional nursing experience preferred
