Columbia University’s Health Services seeks a registered nurse to provide triage, clinical assessment, and patient-centered care for our diverse student population. Responsibilities

  • Triage patient concerns using clinical assessment skills, including crisis intervention and women's health needs.
  • Refer patients for clinical evaluation and follow-up using the scheduling system.
  • Administer medications and treatments (e.g., immunizations, injections, pregnancy screening, women's health counseling).
  • Conduct telephone triage via the Nurse Clinical Symptom Line.
  • Assist with nursing projects, protocols, and guideline updates.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees, programs, and community outreach.
  • Coordinate patient care for women’s health and follow-up on labs and results.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for providers and health staff.
  • Participate in trainings and Practice Group Meetings.
  • Provide health education on acute and chronic conditions and self-care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to support patient flow in triage and urgent care.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Columbia Health Medical Services seeks self-motivated Registered Nurse with superior triage and clinical assessment skills. Join our multidisciplinary staff of dedicated college health professionals and play a critical role in providing comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care to our diverse student population. This is an on-site essential role.

Responsibilities
  • Triage patient concerns using strong clinical assessment skills, including crisis intervention, acute and chronic medical issues, and women’s health–related needs.
  • Refer patients for clinical evaluation and follow-up using the electronic scheduling system, including urgent, same-day, or future appointments.
  • Administer medications and treatments such as allergy injections, immunization, ear irrigations, urgent care nursing procedures, pregnancy screening, and women’s health counseling, including Plan B.
  • Conduct telephone triage through the Nurse Clinical Symptom Line.
  • Assist with nursing projects, protocols, and clinical guidelines, including policies and procedure updates.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees, programs, and community outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate patient care for women’s health and a wide range of medical concerns, including follow-up on laboratory work and results.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for medical providers (MDs, NPs), Medical Assistants, and Health Services Assistants regarding nursing care and education.
  • Participate in educational sessions, in-service trainings, and Practice Group Meetings.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments under the guidance of providers.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including self-evaluation, Peer Review, and Quality Management activities.
  • Provide health education on acute and chronic medical conditions, emphasizing self-care and wellness/prevention for patients and the broader Columbia community.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, medical assistants, laboratory staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, and nutritionists.
  • Support patient flow and care delivery in triage and urgent care under the direction of the Associate Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and current New York State RN license
  • Minimum 2-4 years related experience required
  • Must possess strong clinical assessment and triage skills with proven clinical judgment and skills in the full range of functions of a Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships and work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Completion of current CPR and infection control certificate
  • Required to work a minimum of 3-5 Saturdays during the Spring/Fall Term
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ambulatory care, ER, public health or occupational health nursing experience.
  • Proficiency in Bengali, Cantonese, French,Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese and other languages is a plus.
