Job Summary

Works under the supervision of the unit Supervisor/Manager/Director. A registered professional nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. She/he guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel, maintaining professional nursing standards and hospital policies. Strives for superior performance, contributing to the patient and family experience. As a customer-focused team member, he/she must be accessible, flexible, knowledgeable, and responsive.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical, psychological, social, and educational needs of the patient on admission and complete a written assessment within the designated timeframe.
  • Identify patient needs and formulate a care plan within 24 hours of admission.
  • Implement the care plan, document its effectiveness, and update it at least every 24 hours. Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends.
  • Promote patient independence through education and teaching about condition, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Ensure quality care by adhering to standards, evaluating outcomes, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Resolve patient problems using multidisciplinary strategies.
  • Follow infection control policies, medication procedures, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and staff.
  • Maintain continuity of care through documentation and communication among healthcare teams.
  • Participate in team communication, building rapport, and problem-solving.
  • Utilize leadership skills in delegation, communication, and evaluation of team members.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient status with appropriate interventions and documentation.
  • Provide ongoing education to patients and families based on daily assessments.
  • Prioritize care based on individual patient needs.
  • Participate in ongoing education and hospital committees, attending at least eight staff meetings annually.
  • Communicate unit problems through appropriate channels and participate in solutions.
  • Ensure a safe environment, proper equipment use, and minimize adverse events.
  • Support hospital mission, values, policies, and confidentiality standards.
  • Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
  • Active, unexpired RN license from Michigan.

Experience

  • Preferred but not required.
  • Current BLS certification required or obtain within 2 weeks of hire.

Physical and Technical Abilities

Include ability to travel, stand, walk, lift, carry, push/pull, bend, reach, squat, kneel, twist, hear, see, and perform fine motor and tactile tasks.

Proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical records is required.

Mental and Sensory Skills

Ability to focus, interpret documents, assess patient conditions, and communicate effectively in English.

Interpersonal Skills

Maintain confidentiality, interact professionally, stay calm under pressure, and work effectively as part of a team.
