Job Summary

Administers medical care and prescribed treatments and medications to individuals in assigned programs in accordance with established nursing standards and procedures.

Professional Skills
  • Will be responsible for maintaining standards of developmental disabilities nursing practice.
  • Be knowledgeable of Federal and State regulations as they pertain to Residential and School programs.
  • Develop, monitor, and update individualized health care records, plans consistent with all appropriate regulations for the program setting (this includes medical history, drug reactions, allergies, prescribed medications, immunizations records, etc.).
  • Ensures that medications are administered as prescribed and Approved Medication Administration Personnel are supervised and their certification is maintained as required by regulations and agency policy.
  • Will act as the primary liaison between program employees, medical providers, and families/guardians regarding health care coordination.
  • Provides guidance, training, and support to employees and residential staff regarding health and wellness.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, in-service training programs, and professional seminars to keep abreast of changes in legislation, nursing techniques, etc.
  • Will serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Completes nursing assessments on assigned caseloads as required by regulations and agency policy.
  • Assures control of communicable diseases and infections by identification and assessment, and implementation of appropriate protective and preventative measures.
  • Will minimally maintain weekly communication with the Residence Manager or designee and will maintain weekly visits to assigned programs.
  • Will review all medical consults, changes in individuals' conditions, and any new medical policies and procedures.
Other Responsibilities Include
  • Make initial first aid assessment of employees when injured on the job.
  • Perform related tasks as directed by supervisor.

Job Specifications
  • Education: Associates degree or BS in Nursing and successful completion of the State Board Examination for licensing.
  • Experience: Graduate nurse with RN license required. Some experience is preferred but not required.
