Job summary

Huntingdon Valley Surgery Center in Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse in the Operating Room who can circulate across multiple specialties. No nights, weekends, or on-call requirements.

Graduate from an accredited nursing program; OR experience preferred; BLS/BCLS certification required; current RN licensure in good standing. Perioperative certification preferred; ability to scrub & circulate.

Qualifications

• One year of OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standing.
• BLS/BCLS certification or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification within 90 days of employment.
• Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing preferred; ability to scrub & circulate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient status throughout the perioperative episode of care.
• Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
• Protect the patient from injury from objects, chemicals, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources.
• Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and report unsafe situations.
• Handle specimens according to policy and procedures.
• Adhere to standard precautions and PPE.
• Communicate patient status to care team throughout the continuum.
• Administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration.
• Maintain wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
• Ensure patient is normothermic postoperatively.
• Provide nursing and monitoring per policies.
• Protect patient from surgical site infection.
• Assess knowledge of patient or support person.
• Educate on psychosocial, nutrition, medication, pain, wound management and expected responses.
• Involve patient in decisions about perioperative plan and rehabilitation.

Busy ambulatory surgery center seeking full time Registered Nurse - Operating Room. Must have experience circulating multiple specialties. Operating rooms run 7:30am-3:30pm - no nights, weekends or call! This is an SCA Health facility, part of a large network of ASCs with great benefits.

Education, Experience, and Licensure:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• One year of OR and/or medical / surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standings.
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification.
• Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing is preferred. Ability to scrub & circulate preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assess patient status throughout the perioperative episode of care.
• Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care by implementing:
• Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources.
• Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and following procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
• Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
• Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Communicating the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.
• Administering medications safely and correctly using the 8 rights of medication administration.
• Performing interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
• Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
• Providing nursing and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
• Assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.
• Providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
• Involving the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
• Protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Providing age‑specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
• Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time‑out policy.
