Job summary

NaphCare is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our medical team in Columbiana, AL, where we care for individuals in the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility.

As a Correctional RN, you will perform screenings, administer medications, manage chronic conditions, and respond to emergencies in a controlled environment. New grads are encouraged to apply, with training provided and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current, unrestricted RN license in Alabama.
• Active BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred).
• Knowledge of nursing principles, occupational safety, and infectious disease management.
• Excellent communication and teamwork, with ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments for newly detained individuals.
• Monitor vital signs and document medical histories accurately.
• Provide direct patient care, triage, and develop care plans.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate transport to healthcare facilities.

Overview

NaphCareis hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals in Columbiana, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility.

As aCorrectional Registered Nurse (RN), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

As aRegistered Nurse, you will play a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

• Performing initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
• Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories.
• Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.
• Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
• Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
• Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
• Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
• Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

• Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state of AL

• Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)

• Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Able to work independently and in a team
• Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
• Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues

• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
