Medication Administration
- Follow the six rights of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) each time assistance with or administration of a medication occurs.
- Check each of the six rights three times: when the medication is taken out, immediately before, and immediately after administration.
- Assist with or administer medications according to the resident's Medication Administration Record (MAR), ensuring no errors, upholding the residence's philosophy, and protecting resident privacy.
- Document accurately on the MAR after medication is given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, or returned, following residence policy.
- Maintain a neat, organized medication cart/cabinet and restock as needed.
- Provide residents with treatments as required by their individual service plans.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Resident Services
- Provide quality care and assistance in line with residence policies, procedures, and resident rights.
- Help residents meet their physical, emotional, spiritual, and medical needs to achieve wellness.
- Promote and protect residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
- Respond promptly to resident calls.
- Respect residents' right to refuse medication or treatment.
- Explain medications to residents before administration.
- Observe for adverse reactions and report immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident records.
- Follow infection control standards and dispose of waste properly.
- Build good relationships with residents and families.
- Respond to emergencies following proper procedures.
- Perform all duties effectively as assigned.
Communications
- Attend all staff meetings and training.
- Communicate resident information effectively to team members.
- Report changes in resident condition, adverse reactions, concerns, or errors promptly to the Wellness Nurse.
- Seek advice from supervisors when unsure about medication or treatment procedures.
- Respond to on-the-job injuries per policy.
- Notify supervisors of concerns from residents' families.
