Job Description
Registered Dietician (R.D.) provides medical nutrition therapy to pediatric patients (from infancy to age 18) who may be well or acutely, critically, and chronically ill. Serves as a resource for caregivers and families. Assesses nutritional status. Develops, documents, and implements a nutritional plan based on assessment results. Effectively counsels patients and families for improved outcomes. Participates with interdisciplinary teams to promote nutritional care and presents educational in‑services to the medical team.
Responsibilities
- Assess nutritional status of inpatients and high‑risk outpatients; review history, labs, physical exam, medication, disease, and educational needs.
- Develop, document, and implement nutritional plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds to promote nutritional care.
- Serve as a community resource, supporting home care and area pediatricians.
- Provide education and counseling to caregivers, pediatric patients, and families.
- Educate MDs, RNs, and other disciplines as needed.
- Round with physicians to provide advice, monitor status, and adjust therapy.
- Provide guidance to diet technicians and nutrition assistants.
- Mentor new staff and dietetic interns.
- Participate fully in department QI activities, maintain monthly stats, complete chart audits and peer reviews.
- Identify clinical safety and efficiency issues and communicate with stakeholders.
- Develop and implement practice protocols for continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in research as requested.
- Keep up‑to‑date on nutrition research, educate staff and students, and act as a preceptor.
- Demonstrate knowledge of age‑related differences from pre‑term neonate through adolescence and cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience Required: Bachelor or Master’s of Science in Nutrition or completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics in accordance with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Leads to registration eligibility.
- Education and/or Experience Preferred: Two to five years of pediatric experience.
- License and/or Certification Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers; Registered Dietitian (R.D.) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required within six months of hire.
