Job summary

UTHealth Houston is seeking a dedicated Registered Dietitian II to provide care for pediatric liver patients, including TPN diet management, within our Texas Medical Center clinics. This role may support gastroenterology, pediatric nephrology, and related pediatric teams.

The position emphasizes independent assessment and planning, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering education to families. A valid RD credential and Texas licensure are required.

Qualifications

  • RD credential with active licensure and registration.
  • Graduate of an accredited nutrition program.
  • Texas licensure to practice dietetics in Texas.
  • Clinical nutrition certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nutrition counseling for pediatric liver patients and families.
  • Develop and monitor personalized nutrition plans including TPN management.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Dietitian to play a vital role in caring for our pediatric liver patient population, including the management of TPN diets. This position also provides support to our general gastroenterology pediatric clinics, offering a rewarding opportunity to work closely with children and families at the Texas Medical Center. This position may also support pediatric Nephrology clinics.

Position Summary:

The Registered Dietitian II is responsible for intermediate to advanced assessment, planning, implementation, and oversight for patients with low to high-complexity nutritional needs. This role works independently, and functions as an experienced registered dietitian and engages in quality improvement measures to enhance patient care.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Nutrition Counseling: Provide detailed dietary advice to patients, tailoring interventions to individual needs. Recommend and counsel patients, family, and/or caregivers on the appropriate nutrition plan to improve the patient's disease or condition management. Identifies information asymmetries to support shared decision-making.
  • Treatment Plan Development and Implementation: Craft and execute comprehensive personalized nutrition plans in coordination with healthcare teams. Develop personalized interventions using advanced problem solving strategies. Maintains clear, accurate and appropriate patient/client records according to organizational policies, standards and state and federal regulations.
  • Nutrition Education and Material Development: Utilize and personalize patient and family education materials.
  • Professional Proficiency and Collaboration: Utilize training and educational materials and facilitate the training of colleagues in developing skills in area of specialty.
  • Community and Health Agency Collaboration: Provide nutritional program information to community health agencies.
  • Marketing and Promotion of Nutrition Services: Increase awareness of the nutrition services offered. Participates in team discussions to identify trends in clinical care and to target client/patient wants and needs.
  • Quality Improvement Participation: Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to optimize nutrition care outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in the nutrition care process and model.
  • Good counseling skills and ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and variedlearning levels
  • Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education hours as specified by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and state licensure regulations
  • Work may involve handling biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials, as well as operating associated equipment. Required safety training and appropriate engineering and administrative controls including the use of personal protective equipment must be followed.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required
  • Licensed Dietitian by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
  • Clinical specialty certification determined by the department within 6 months of hire required
Minimum Education:
  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) in Nutrition by an accredited or approved education program required
Minimum Experience:

3 Years Of Registered Dietitian Experience Required

Physical Requirements:
  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

  • This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code
  • 51.215 and Texas Government Code
  • 411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code
