Job description

The Clinical Nutrition levels I and II competently provide and document nutrition care to patients as applicable to the practice area. This is a great opportunity to join a team that values the role of nutrition in disease management. This position is Monday through Friday and provides coverage when other team members are scheduled off. Excellent communication skills are essential for teaching patients, families, and other healthcare team members. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
  1. Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  2. For Clinical Nutrition I: May be registry eligible but must pass the RD exam within the first 6 months of employment. Advancement to Clinical Nutrition II is required one year after passing the exam.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment:
  1. Maintain Registered Dietitian status with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  2. CPR training for outpatient nutrition clinic practice.
Experience REQUIRED:
  1. For Clinical Nutrition I: Less than one year of experience providing nutrition care in an acute care setting.
  2. For Clinical Nutrition II: One or more years of experience providing nutrition care in an acute care setting as a Registered Dietitian (unless grandfathered in under previous position requirements).
Experience PREFERRED:
  1. For Clinical Nutrition I: Not applicable.
  2. For Clinical Nutrition II: Experience in counseling within outpatient or acute care settings is preferred.
Education/Training REQUIRED:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or a related field from an accredited institution.
Education/Training PREFERRED:
  1. Specialty certifications in practice areas, such as Adult or Childhood & Adolescent Weight Management.
  2. Motivational interview training.
  3. Experience with clinical research protocols where applicable.
Responsibilities for Clinical Nutrition Levels I and II:
  1. Perform nutrition care activities as per departmental policies and procedures.
  2. Cannot provide nutrition care to end-stage renal patients until one year post-registration.
  3. Order medical nutrition therapy patient orders, including diet modifications, snacks, supplements, and enteral feedings, after competency is verified.
  4. Communicate with healthcare team and food service managers regarding patient needs.
  5. Provide in-services to staff.
Additional Requirements:
  1. Work weekends as assigned.
  2. Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  3. Adherence to the Code of Ethics for dietetics.
  4. Travel to satellite clinics as needed.
  5. Flexibility for evening hours in pediatric outpatient roles.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Physical: Lifting less than 20 lbs, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motions.
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
  • Emotional: Ability to handle a fast-paced environment, multiple priorities, customer interactions, noise, and change.
