The Clinical Nutrition levels I and II competently provide and document nutrition care to patients as applicable to the practice area. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- For Clinical Nutrition I: May be registry eligible but must pass the RD exam within the first 6 months of employment. Advancement to Clinical Nutrition II is required one year after passing the exam.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment:
- Maintain Registered Dietitian status with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- CPR training for outpatient nutrition clinic practice.
Experience REQUIRED:
- For Clinical Nutrition I: Less than one year of experience providing nutrition care in an acute care setting.
- For Clinical Nutrition II: One or more years of experience providing nutrition care in an acute care setting as a Registered Dietitian (unless grandfathered in under previous position requirements).
Experience PREFERRED:
- For Clinical Nutrition I: Not applicable.
- For Clinical Nutrition II: Experience in counseling within outpatient or acute care settings is preferred.
Education/Training REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or a related field from an accredited institution.
Education/Training PREFERRED:
- Specialty certifications in practice areas, such as Adult or Childhood & Adolescent Weight Management.
- Motivational interview training.
- Experience with clinical research protocols where applicable.
Responsibilities for Clinical Nutrition Levels I and II:
- Perform nutrition care activities as per departmental policies and procedures.
- Cannot provide nutrition care to end-stage renal patients until one year post-registration.
- Order medical nutrition therapy patient orders, including diet modifications, snacks, supplements, and enteral feedings, after competency is verified.
- Communicate with healthcare team and food service managers regarding patient needs.
- Provide in-services to staff.
Additional Requirements:
- Work weekends as assigned.

- Adherence to the Code of Ethics for dietetics.
- Travel to satellite clinics as needed.
- Flexibility for evening hours in pediatric outpatient roles.
