Job Description
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for assessing nutrition status, providing enteral nutrition support, and delivering nutrition education to inpatients as part of the clinical nutrition team. This role primarily supports medical weight management within the OB/Gyn Department, in addition to menopause and general women's health. The dietitian collaborates with caregivers and the interdisciplinary team to promote effective therapeutic diets and nutrition interventions, ensuring compliance with performance improvement initiatives and regulatory standards.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs the nutrition care process (nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis and determination of care goals, nutrition intervention, and monitoring and evaluation) for patients at nutrition risk and others identified per department standards as in need of nutrition care.
Provide age-specific patient education (assessment of learning needs and barriers to learning; communication with patient/caregivers and assessing learning transfer) and develop materials as needed to augment the education process.
Calculates nutrient requirements and intake.
Uses computer programs to access information and communicate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Documents clinical care according to organizational guidelines
Establishes individual plans of care for nutrition therapy based on results of the comprehensive nutritional assessment, including immediate, intermediate, and long term goals of therapy
Educates patients, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members about the effectiveness of therapeutic diets and nutrition support regiments to improve/maintain nutritional status and establish optimal outcomes
Instructs patients and families; when indicated, on modified diets.
Performs other duties as assigned.
