Job summary

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington is seeking an experienced Dietitian to join our operations team, providing nutrition care for patients aged 5–65+ in a hospital setting.

You will supervise dietary plans, conduct assessments, and develop menus while promoting education for patients and staff. The role involves collaboration with clinical teams and adherence to hospital standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition required.
  • Current registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; DC licensure.
  • Minimum of one year related experience as a clinical dietitian.
  • Knowledge of dietetics, nutrition, hospital food service administration and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all nutritional aspects of patient care, including menus and therapeutic diet plans.
  • Develop master menus and therapeutic diet plans for patients 5–65+ and staff.
  • Conduct nutrition assessments and provide care plans.

Responsibilities

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington is seeking an experienced Dietition to join our operations team.

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial andintensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.

The Registered dietician plans, directs, and provides nutritional care to patients, conducts nutrition assessments, plans master menus and menus for therapeutic diets for hospital patients from ages 5-65+, employees, and visitors.

  • Supervise all nutritional aspects of patient care, including menus and therapeutic diet plans.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, conferences, continuing education, and professional affiliations.
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation programs that comply with established standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibit a positive and professional attitude toward patients and staff at all times.
  • Provide a comprehensive dietary orientation program that includes job-specific skills training.
  • Ensure consistent compliance with all state, federal, Joint Commission, and hospital standards.
  • Determine whether staff members are following the appropriate menu production system and using it effectively.
  • Facilitate weekly nutrition education groups and informational programs for patients.
  • Complete all required documentation related to patient care assessments.
  • Develop curriculum and educational materials for patient nutrition programs.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition.
  • Current registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Licensed in the District of Columbia.
  • Minimum of One (1) year related experience as a Clinical Dietitian.
  • Knowledge of dietetics, nutrition, administration and operation of hospital food services.
  • Must be familiar with methods of teaching and principles of education and must possess thorough knowledge of theory and practice of dietetics including physiology and digestion processes of the human body.
  • Ability to maintain good working relations among personnel supervised. Tact and cooperation involved in person-to-person relationships with personnel of other departments, other hospital and professional associations, and with physicians in planning diet therapy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to operating officials, staff, and patients.
