What You'll Do
As Registered Dietitian, you will plan, organize, develop, and direct the preliminary and comprehensive assessments of each resident's dietary needs in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, ensuring quality nutritional services are provided every day.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop preliminary and comprehensive dietary assessments and written plans of care that identify each resident's dietary needs and goals, reviewing and revising at least quarterly
- Involve residents and families in the development and review of dietary care plans, and interview as needed to obtain diet history and food preferences
- Plan regular and therapeutic diet menus as prescribed by attending physicians, and ensure menus and diet plans comply with physician orders and comprehensive assessments
- Ensure dietary personnel are aware of and follow resident care plans, including any special equipment or utensil needs; provide suitable food substitutes for residents who refuse served meals
- Assist in the development, administration, and coordination of departmental policies and procedures, and interpret them for staff, residents, and outside agencies
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections; develop and submit plans of correction for dietary deficiencies to the Administrator
- Maintain accurate, descriptive dietary progress notes reflecting services provided and resident response
- Visit residents periodically to evaluate meal quality and satisfaction, and maintain ongoing liaison with residents and families
- Collaborate with the Director of Dietary Services and facility leadership on menus, work schedules, and departmental operations
- Serve on and contribute to relevant facility committees (e.g., Infection Control, Quality Assessment and Assurance, Budget) as assigned by the Administrator
- Meet regularly with dietary staff and interdepartmental supervisors to identify and resolve problem areas and improve services
- Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health care organizations, and implement recommendations from facility consultants
- Maintain a reference library of current dietary laws, regulations, and standards to ensure ongoing compliance and quality
- Attend department head, staff, and in-service meetings as scheduled or directed
- Maintain department work areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner, and foster a warm, positive atmosphere throughout the facility
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university
- Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Dietitian in the state of practice
- Strong knowledge of dietary practices and procedures, as well as applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines governing dietary services in long-term care
- Demonstrated ability to make sound, independent decisions
- Ability to interact tactfully and professionally with staff, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the general public
- Proactive in identifying and incorporating new methods and best practices into dietary services
- Ability to communicate clearly regarding resident condition and needs
- Ability to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role with composure and professionalism
- Experience serving Veteran populations preferred
