Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida seeks a part-time Dietitian (RDN) to conduct nutrition-focused assessments, interpret data, and tailor nutrition care plans for patients. You will educate patients, coordinate with the care team, and document care in the electronic health record. Flexibility and strong communication are essential in this role.

You will contribute to quality improvement and ensure compliance with nutrition standards while supporting diverse patient needs in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must possess Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentials.
• Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a closely related field.
• Comprehensive knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition care processes.
• Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform nutrition-focused assessments and data collection.
• Develop and implement nutrition care plans and interventions.
• Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and families.
• Document care in the electronic health record accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and dietetics staff in rounds.
• Supervise students, interns, and new staff as assigned.

Job Description

Completes nutrition-focused physical assessments, takes measurements, reviews medical records, collects data via interviews, and evaluates anthropometric status. Evaluates assessment data to identify nutrition risks, nutrition problems, criteria consistent with malnutrition, knowledge deficits, and high-risk health behaviors. Offers nutrition interventions, orders, education, counseling, and referrals to other services. May place feeding tubes or perform indirect calorimetry studies. Provides counseling and education using evidence-based techniques that reflect appropriate health literacy and cultural sensitivity to patients with disease processes requiring nutritional management. Monitors and evaluates nutrition care plans to reach nutrition goals and promote optimal outcomes. Supervises practice experience for dietetic interns, dietetic technicians, registration eligible dietitians and new employees, participates in research, performance improvement, and initiatives. Enters complete, accurate, and timely electronic health record documentation. Enters nutrition orders when authorized by Medical Staff policy and procedure to reflect patient care. Participates in patient care rounds, collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to create nutrition plans of care. Promotes evidence-based nutrition care and makes expertise available to foodservice areas. Provides timely responses to internal electronic communication. Other duties as assigned.

• Avails self to staff on units as the nutrition expert [Required]
• Participates in Quality Improvement activities [Required]
• Attends interdisciplinary meetings and rounds on assigned units as scheduled unless valid excuse demonstrated [Required]
• Assists in regulatory survey preparation when applicable [Required]
• Reviews and/or updates department resource/reference materials when applicable or required [Required]
• When confronted with barriers to meeting patient care standards, improves process by planning and implementing action steps [Required]
• Identifies specific patient or staff needs, initiates and develops educational or clinical materials then evaluates outcomes [Required]
• Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with established standards [Required]
• Skill and knowledge in working with an electronic health record system [Required]
• Analyzes and interprets reliable assessment data to identify an actual occurrence, risk of, or potential for developing a nutrition problem [Required]
• Nutrition Diagnoses/Problems are included on the patient care plan and updated as more data becomes available, or signed off as applicable [Required]
• Provides appropriate intervention in accordance with the identified patient’s goals [Required]
• Identifies and follows through with potential complex discharge planning needs, intervenes early to promote timely attainment of goals [Required]

• Reassesses and updates nutrition care process and implement changes as indicated [Required]
• Complies with National Patient Safety Goals regarding abbreviation usage, patient identification [Required]
• Assessment, interventions and procedures utilizing equipment are appropriate for age group [Required]
