Registered Dietician

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer

Department: General Medicine / Diabetes Clinic

Position Overview
  • Provides comprehensive nutritional care to patients with special needs or nutritional risk criteria.
  • Performs patient assessment, provides education, communicates with interdisciplinary teams, develops nutritional plans of care, and documents interventions following policy and standards.
  • Acts as a competent clinician, utilizing appropriate skills and decision‑making in clinical care.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Completes dietary assessment and documents findings in the patient’s E.H.R., including counseling, food substitutions, and diet instructions.
  • Determines dietary needs from chart review, medical staff consultation, and other sources.
  • Calculates special diets and weighted diets as ordered by physicians.
  • Observes, analyzes, and records diet program and patient response to evaluate effectiveness and recommend changes.
  • Communicates directly with the patient’s PCP via NextGen E.H.R. for care coordination.
  • Pursues continuous self‑improvement through training, seminars, in‑services, and educational classes.
  • Follows all agency safety and health standards, regulations, procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Initiates and implements measures to deliver high‑quality care and improve services.
  • Responds efficiently to patient and provider staff needs and inquiries.
  • Ensures excellent customer service to all FHCCGLA patients.
  • Works with operations managers to manage patient scheduling and flow and address bottlenecks.
  • Handles patient grievances according to FHCCGLA Policy & Procedure.
  • Assists in developing, updating, and reviewing FHCCGLA Policies & Procedures as needed.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of all patient data and electronic records.
  • Counsels patients regarding normal and therapeutic dietary needs.
  • Regularly meets with the C.M.O. to review progress, exchange information, and discuss future goals.
  • Assists in menu planning and nourishment lists for conformity with dietary policies, based on primary diagnoses (diabetes, overweight, hypertension, etc.).
  • Develops and conducts in‑service training for personnel when appropriate.
  • Contributes to relevant sections of FHCCGLA’s policy & procedure manual related to nutrition.
  • Oversees the Nutrition portion of FHCCGLA’s Diabetes Program.
  • Trains incoming/future Registered Dietitians.
  • Creations of educational materials for Diabetes Programs.
  • Manages the nutritional component of the Hypertension Management Program.
  • May submit written monthly reports to the C.M.O.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all client‑related matters.
  • Attends mandated meetings and trainings, including quarterly staff meetings, Corporate Risk Management meetings, Clinical & Operations meetings, Executive Leadership meetings, and other scheduled sessions.
  • Stays informed of current legal and regulatory changes related to scope of practice, payers, insurances, services, and applicable policies & procedures.
  • Conducts group sessions for patients.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Current CPR Certification, up to date.
  • FQHC experience highly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivation to take initiative and complete tasks thoroughly and accurately.
  • Knowledge of administrative principles and procedures.
  • Computer skills preferred (NextGen E.H.R. & PMS, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and familiarity with Hispanic culture.
  • Valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Work schedule may include evenings, overtime, and weekends.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work under deadline pressure.
  • Commitment to providing high‑quality healthcare to indigent and underserved communities.
  • Willingness to adapt to agency growth and expansion.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of management experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Experience in an acute psychiatric hospital highly desirable.
  • Registered Dietitian Certification by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (American Dietetic Association credential).
