Role Overview and Purpose

The Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) improves the oral health of patients through the delivery of professional high-quality dental hygiene care and associated services. This role performs responsibilities for clinic and community dental health education activities and supports the dental team in various patient care, office, and laboratory duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provides periodontal therapies and other dental hygiene services to patients.
  • Assesses patient dental conditions and needs using approved procedures.
  • Evaluates oral health by examining for periodontal diseases and oral lesions.
  • Documents observations and patient reactions to dentists.
  • Exposes, processes, and mounts radiograph films.
  • Performs oral hygiene procedures as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Assists with emergency measures during treatment.
  • Educates patients on oral hygiene, proper brushing, flossing, nutrition, and professional care.

Clinical Operations Support & Compliance

  • Enhances clinic efficiency by performing expanded duties as allowed by law.
  • Documents lab procedures and follows up on results.
  • Ensures all patient care tasks comply with standards and policies.
  • Manages patient records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Utilizes tools and technology for data collection and records management.
  • Maintains infection control standards per OSHA, CDC, and ADA guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies and maintains license through continuing education.

Customer & Community Relations

  • Provides positive patient experiences with care and compassion.
  • Helps patients feel comfortable and develops rapport.
  • Handles patient concerns with enthusiasm and empathy.
  • Builds professional relationships with staff and conducts community dental health clinics.

Education/Experience

  • High school/GED required.
  • Valid California Registered Dental Hygienist License required.
  • Valid BLS certification required upon hire.
  • One-year dental hygienist experience required.
  • Local anesthesia certification preferred.
  • Experience in FQHC setting preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required at the site.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and proofreading.
  • Knowledge of dental procedures, equipment, and infection control.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Professional and ethical handling of confidential information.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.

Compliance (Safety & HIPAA)

  • Follows safety procedures and maintains awareness of safety policies.
  • Ensures infection control and privacy standards are met.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and unethical activity.

Pay Range: $50.71 - $61.06 per hour, depending on experience.
