Big Smiles, a school-based mobile dental practice, is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) in Oakland, CA and surrounding areas to help provide dental care to underserved children at their school.

Our innovative in-school dental program offers a different environment than traditional practices, with a workday ending with the school day and no nights or weekends, ideal for working parents or those seeking a meaningful impact in the dental field.

Qualifications

• Active California RDHAP license in good standing
• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as an RDH or RDHAP
• Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation
• Comfortable working independently in field environments
• Strong interpersonal skills with children, adults, and caregivers
• Organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks in a mobile setting
• Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs of portable dental equipment
• Current CPR (BLS) certification with hands-on skills verification
• Must be able to access facilities without elevators; stair navigation required

Responsibilities

• Provide preventive dental care within RDHAP scope, including radiographs, prophylaxis, caries arresting, sealant and fluoride applications
• Conduct oral health assessments and review/update patient histories
• Offer oral hygiene education and counseling
• Maintain accurate documentation and patient records
• Coordinate care with supervising dentist as per RDHAP regulations
• Travel daily to community sites and set up/take down portable equipment
