As a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with Heartland Community Health Center's Healthy Futures Mobile Dental Program, you will provide vital preventive dental care - including cleanings, sealants, X-rays, and assessments - to children directly in schools and community settings. This position is ideal for a compassionate, energetic clinician seeking a fast-paced and rewarding experience where you'll truly make a difference by meeting kids and families where they are. This is a hybrid position that includes both community-based outreach work through the Healthy Futures Dental Program and in-clinic patient care at Heartland locations, supporting integrated care delivery and expanding access to services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide preventive and rehabilitative caries control and periodontal services, including:
  • Routine prophylaxis and topical application
  • Apply SDF as needed
  • Use ART technique to place interim restorations as needed
  • Scaling and root planing
  • Use local anesthetic for procedures as needed and within scope of practice
  • Promote an atmosphere of good dental and general health by demonstrating good personal oral hygiene.
  • Educate patients on techniques of flossing, brushing, overall oral health, and the role of the dental care team.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments appropriately.
  • Follow infection control protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform all duties in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Remain attentive and responsive to patient needs.
  • Attend meetings as required, including Joint Staff and department meetings.
  • Complete assigned trainings in a timely manner.
  • Rotate to Medical Clinic settings to support medical/dental integration.
  • Empower medical teams to deliver dental screenings to medical patients. Establish team relationships and coordinate bi-directional warm handoffs to and from specialty dental according to established protocols.
  • Maintain established productivity expectations during scheduled patient-facing hours, with a goal of treating no less than one patient per patient-facing hour in the clinic setting and no less than two patients per patient-facing hour in the community-based care setting. Administrative time is excluded from patient-facing productivity calculations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a certified Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required and must be maintained.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the social and cultural needs of diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care.
  • Remains calm and exercises sound judgment in emergency or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA privacy regulations and ability to follow written policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, and standard office equipment.
  • Skilled in writing clear, accurate reports and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and dental terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Works independently, exercises good judgment, and adapts well to fast-paced, changing environments.
  • Demonstrates professionalism through punctuality, clean and appropriate attire, and good personal hygiene.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Details

Hours are Monday through Friday, generally ranging from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Shifts are typically 8 hours in length and may occur in clinic or community-based settings. Work occurs in a hybrid environment including schools, outreach locations, the mobile dental unit, and Heartland clinic locations.

The work schedule includes designated patient-facing hours and protected administrative time. Administrative time is intended for completion of documentation, patient follow-up and care coordination, preparation for community-based services, required trainings, team collaboration, meetings, and other duties necessary to support effective patient care and program operations.

The amount and scheduling of patient-facing and administrative time will be established based on the employee's FTE, assigned schedule, operational needs, and departmental standards.

Administrative time is considered scheduled work time, and employees are expected to remain available and engaged in assigned work responsibilities during this time.

Occasional after-hours work may be required.
