A Dental Hygienist at Commonwealth Dentistry works with our dentists to meet the oral health needs of our patients.

DENTAL HYGIENIST KEY COMPETENCIES

• Assess dental condition and needs of patient using screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting
• Deliver direct patient care using established procedures
• Take patient vital signs
• Perform routine treatments such as cleaning and polishing
• Take radiographs for diagnosis
• Apply sealants and fluorides
• Maintain electronic records
• Document dental history and chief complaint
• Report pertinent observations
• Educate patients on preventing tooth decay and gum disease
• Clean and sterilize instruments
• Complete Treatment Plan as prescribed by the dentist
• Review and explain treatment plans and fees with patients
• Articulate patient concerns to the dentist
• Serve as primary treatment coordinator
• Perform ancillary duties as needed
