Smile New York Outreach, a school-based mobile dental practice, is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist in Bronx and Manhattan, NY and surrounding areas to help provide dental care to underserved children at their schools.

Our innovative in-school dental program offers a different experience than traditional practices. With a workday that ends with the school day and no nights or weekends, it’s ideal for those seeking a diverse and meaningful working environment, working parents, or anyone wanting to make a difference in the dental field.

Qualifications

• Must hold an active RDH license
• At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist
• Valid State ID, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally
• Ability to work well with children and adults
• Organized, detail-oriented, able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to carry up to 50 lbs.
• Current CPR (BLS) certification with hands-on skills assessment
• Ability to walk several flights of stairs as many schools lack elevators

Responsibilities

• Assist with oral health management of all patients and be a team player
• Verify patient identity before treatment and document accordingly
• Obtain oral health assessments for new and follow-up patients
• Review medical history and other relevant information
• Provide oral hygiene services including prophylaxis, sealants, and fluoride treatments
• Assist the dentist as directed
• Provide oral health education and counseling
• Document services on patient charts
• Travel daily to school sites

• Work a school-day schedule (about 6-7 hours, typically 8:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.)
