Job Overview

The technician will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of intervention based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as well as analysis of data and notation of progress with data.

Qualifications

The Behavior Technician will ideally have experience in a field of study related to human services (education, psychology, communication disorders, sociology, or other) and/or have experience working with children with disabilities.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Always ensure the clients’ safety
  • Work directly with the clients and implement the therapy with an active, creative, and positive attitude
  • Follow daily skill acquisition and behavior interventions accurately
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), following training (e.g., discrete trial training, reinforcement, prompting, data collection, data analysis, behavior functions, etc.)
  • Prepare for ABA sessions, such as gathering materials and reading previous notes, to run a productive and effective session
  • Document clients’ progress throughout the day, by taking ongoing and accurate data and writing notes for every session
  • Review session notes and analyze data daily to suggest program updates
  • Communicate and collaborate with the clinical team, parents, and any other stakeholders as necessary and as permitted
  • Actively participate in group trainings and meetings by providing important information about the clients, offering appropriate observations and strategies, taking notes to distribute to the group when needed, and actively listening
  • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with fellow employees, parents, children, visitors, and volunteers
  • Be prompt and reliable
  • Keep learning environment orderly, clean, warm, and inviting
  • Uphold all SGH Values and follow the Center’s policies and procedures
  • Comply with all necessary standards and regulations (HIPAA, Child Care Licensure, DCDEE, DHSR, BACB, etc.) and maintain any required credential or licensure
  • Become credentialed as a Registered Behavior Technician within the first 90 days of employment. Maintain yearly credential by documenting supervised hours from BCBA
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide home sessions when needed
  • Fill in at other programs as needed
  • Provide integration opportunities into settings, such as typically developing classrooms and facilitate social interactions and inclusion when applicable
  • Create programmatic and therapeutic materials when necessary
  • Create group time plans and run lessons
  • Train new employees, interns, and volunteers as needed
  • Take an active role in evaluations (e.g., providing own evaluation on self, open to suggestions for improvement, making appropriate changes based on evaluations)
  • Attend to visitors/volunteers/other professionals and willingly provide information about the methodology employed by the organization
  • Remain involved in the development of the organization (e.g., attend fundraisers, present to the board, participate in research, etc.)
  • Communicate with leadership and supervisors regarding concerns and questions
  • If driving for a clinic, must have a clean driving record and successfully complete organizational van training.
  • Other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements

The Behavior Technician will be performing various physical activities up to 80% of the day to ensure maximum safety for themselves, clients, and others as well as provide effective therapy.

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds, including small children
  • Lifting and carrying clients with adaptive equipment
  • Restraining/holding/transporting and utilizing quick body movements as indicated in Crisis Intervention Training , while working with children with challenging behaviors E.G. moving quickly in the event of an attempt to elope.
  • Hearing, seeing, and speaking constantly
  • Working in an indoor and outdoor setting in various weather conditions
  • Performing various physical activities easily, such as walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, holding, climbing, carrying, lifting, twisting, running and swimming
  • Maintaining a variety of postures, such as kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, bending over, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time
  • Sitting on the floor and in small chairs for extended periods of time and moving easily in this capacity
  • Having manual dexterity to write and perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection
  • Having ability to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means
