Primary Function
Support teachers and work directly with students displaying maladaptive, dangerous, and disruptive behaviors. Serve as a member of the support team to develop positive intervention plans to improve student performance.
Requirements
- Educational Level: Associate degree, two years of college, or passing score on GACE/PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment Test
- Certification: Registered Behavior Technician Certificate or willingness to obtain and maintain it
- Experience: Minimum 1 year with students exhibiting disruptive behaviors or with Autism/Emotional Behavioral Disorders (preferred)
- Physical Activities: Ability to lift students up to 60 pounds and perform two-person lifts for heavier students
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Effective communication, understanding of applied behavior analysis, assessment and treatment of severe behaviors, implementation of behavior intervention plans
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some requirements.
Essential Duties
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
- Implement applied behavior analysis protocols with fidelity
- Provide direct instruction of behavior strategies, including positive reinforcement
- Collect and evaluate data on student behaviors
- Support teachers with behavior intervention plans and functional behavior assessments
- Monitor treatment generalization across settings and staff
- Pursue professional development in ABA and related fields
- Generate session notes detailing behaviors and strategies
- Participate in meetings with families and schools
- Assist in developing crisis intervention plans
- Implement ABA as directed by BCBA
- Perform other duties as assigned
