Job summary

Helping Hand School in Illinois seeks a compassionate Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to support students aged 3-22 with autism and related needs. You will provide one-on-one and small-group support, implement ABA strategies, and collaborate with BCBAs, teachers, families, and the educational team to foster a safe, engaging learning environment.

The role is on-site, 37.5 hours per week, with an hourly wage of $23.75–$24.50 plus up to 6% annual bonus.

Qualifications

Description

Helping Hand School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to support students ages 3-22 with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and other specialized needs.

In this role, you will work directly with students to build academic, behavioral, communication, and daily living skills. You will collaborate closely with teachers, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), families, and other members of each student's educational team to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:

  • On-site position, weekdays, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Salary range: $23.75-$24.50 per hour (hourly/non-exempt).
  • Salary based on skills and experience.
  • Up to 6% annual bonus potential.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support in classroom and school settings.
  • Implement teaching and behavioral strategies outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior plans.
  • Use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies to help students develop meaningful skills and achieve individualized goals.
  • Observe student behavior, collect accurate data, and communicate progress to the educational team and caregivers.
  • Respond to situations requiring behavioral support throughout the school.
  • Assist BCBAs with behavioral assessments, behavior plans, and data review.
  • Help classroom teams and families understand and apply effective ABA strategies.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment in which every student is valued.
  • Participate in required school and agency meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING:
Education/Training:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Registered Behavior Technician certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
Experience:
  • Experience supporting children or young adults, ages 3-22.
  • Experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, or related diagnoses.
Skill Sets:
  • A commitment to maintaining annual RBT certification and following the RBT Ethics Code.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative educational team.
  • Flexibility to support students in different classrooms and settings throughout the school day.
  • Comfortable using technology such as Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, email, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required agency training, including crisis management training.
  • Ability to promote and adhere to company values.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about to assist students, access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • The ability to observe details at a close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Consistently position self to maintain files in file cabinets or assist students.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in all situations.
  • Occasional movement of students by wheelchair or other mechanical devices.
  • The person in this position may encounter students exhibiting physical aggression; must be comfortable working in periods of crisis and feel comfortable de-escalating individually or as a team.
