Job summary

BW Design Group is seeking an experienced architectural leader to deliver design and construction documents for industrial facility renovations across life sciences, pharma, and food & beverage sectors. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, develop program requirements, and ensure code compliance and efficient collaboration with clients.

The role emphasizes expertise in constructing design documents, overseeing associates, and coordinating across engineering disciplines to meet project goals

Qualifications

  • Code studies/evaluations for life science facilities or hazardous areas.
  • 7+ years in industrial/manufacturing architectural design with leadership of programs and docs.
  • 5+ years delivering industrial projects in advanced tech and life sciences.
  • Experience in food & beverage or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
  • Experience developing construction docs for pharma, biotech, medical devices, or food industries.
  • Experience in greenfield facility design and renovations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare architectural designs and construction documents for industrial facility renovations as part of an integrated A/E team.
  • Investigate and design building envelope systems including roofs and walls.
  • Assist the owner or PM in defining facility requirements for advanced technologies, life science, pharma, and food&beverage projects.
  • Oversee work of associate architects and designers.
  • Lead architectural design and multidisciplinary project teams in industrial/manufacturing settings.
  • Define facility program requirements based on client process flow and environmental needs.
  • Conduct site-specific code research for project sites and proposed uses.
  • Create integrated solutions and communicate concepts to clients.
  • Develop base plans and coordinate requirements with other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop design intent aligned with client objectives.
  • Research material options or alternate building methods as needed.
  • Develop specs and direct preparation of plans for permits and construction.
  • Respond to RFIs and review submittals and shop drawings during pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Manage and guide architectural designers.
  • Contribute day-to-day with skills to strengthen client and team relationships.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare architectural designs and construction documents for industrial facility interior and exterior renovations as a part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary A/E team
  • Investigate and design building envelope systems including all components of roofs and walls
  • Assist the owner or project manager in defining the facility requirements/program for projects in advanced technologies, life science, pharma, and food & beverage design
  • Oversee the work of associate architects and designers
  • Lead the architectural design and multi-disciplinary industrial and manufacturing project teams
  • Define the industrial facility program requirements based on an understanding of the client's production process flow and space environmental needs
  • Conduct code research specific to the project site, program, and proposed use
  • Create integrated solutions and communicate key concepts to the client
  • Develop the base plan and coordinate technical requirements to other engineering disciplines
  • Develop design intent based on client objectives
  • Research material options or alternative building methods as necessary
  • Develop specifications and direct preparation of technical plans and related documents for permit acquisition and construction
  • Answer RFIs and review submittals and shop drawings throughout the pre-construction and construction phases of the project
  • Manage and provide guidance to architectural designers
  • Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team
What You'll Bring
  • A working knowledge of code studies/evaluations for life science facilities or hazardous/classified areas (preferred)
  • A minimum of 7 years of industrial/manufacturing architectural design experience with a proven ability to lead the facility design from the programming/concept phase through the production of construction documents, permit acquisition, and site implementation
  • A minimum of five years of experience executing industrial projects in the advanced technologies and life science sectors (preferred)
  • Food and beverage or heavy industrial/manufacturing project experience (preferred)
  • A strong working knowledge of local, state, and national building codes
  • Experience in the development and creation of construction documents for pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or food & beverage industries (preferred)
  • Experience in the design of greenfield facilities and in the renovation of existing
