Job description

Overview

Responsible for ensuring that tax processes, controls and reporting across the assigned region are executed efficiently, accurately and in compliance with both local and global tax regulations. This role bridges strategy and operations by ensuring operational excellence and supporting the business in optimizing tax risks whilst maximizing compliance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Manage all aspects of regional corporate tax compliance, including corporate income tax, withholding taxes, freight taxes and transfer pricing returns.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation, review and submission of tax returns and related filings across the region.

  • Support global reporting requirements within the region, e.g. CbCR, Pillar II.

  • Oversee local and regional tax audits, managing enquiries and resolving tax controversies.

  • Lead and support a proactive tax audit readiness approach within the region.

  • Manage tax accounting requirements within the region.

Operational Excellence

  • Support and implement standardized tax process and controls to ensure consistency, accuracy and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with finance and other teams to improve processes, risk management and the internal control environment.

  • Maintain and enhance the use of technology solutions to streamline and optimize tax compliance and reporting.

Risk Management and Governance

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate regional tax risks.

  • Support internal and external audit processes and ensure control compliance where applicable.

Strategic Initiatives and Business Support

  • Partner with corporate tax and regional leadership on strategic planning and transformation.

  • Monitor tax law changes within the region, evaluate business impacts, and effectuate, where applicable.

  • Provide tax advisory and technical guidance to business teams and support cross-border operational planning.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of tax professionals across the region.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation within the tax operations team.

  • Ensure ongoing training and development to keep the team updated on regulatory changes and operational best practices.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Degree-level education, 8+ years of progressive professional experience.

  • CPA or equivalent certification.

  • At least 3-5 years in a leadership or regional/global management role.

  • Experience in multinational corporations or Big 4 accounting firms is highly valued.

  • Background in international shipping and logistics is a plus.

  • Hands-on experience in direct tax operations or compliance roles.

  • Proven track record of working with tax authorities, managing audits, and resolving disputes.

  • In-depth knowledge of regional and international tax regulations.

  • Familiarity with tax automation tools and solutions.
