Job summary

Nassau BOCES seeks a regional Social Studies leader to support K-12 social studies initiatives across districts, aligning with NYS frameworks and Portrait of a Graduate. You will provide leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning while coordinating regional social studies curricula and expansion with Grade 6 starting 2027-2028, with potential growth to Grades 7-8.

Qualifications

• NYSED Certification: SDA or SDL.
• Three or more years teaching experience (NYSED Certification: Social Studies 7-12 preferred).
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office/M365 for organizing digital curriculum resources and communicating with districts.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, meetings, curriculum revisions, and stakeholder groups.
• Ability to travel within Nassau County.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and support to component districts in Social Studies curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
• Design and facilitate professional development on inquiry-based learning and Social Studies best practices.
• Coordinate implementation and ongoing support for the Nassau BOCES Regional Social Studies Curriculum, including Grade 6 expansion in 2027-2028 and potential expansion to Grades 7-8.
• Lead curriculum writing projects ensuring standards alignment and instructional quality.
• Analyze district feedback and program outcomes to drive continuous improvement of curriculum and regional programming.
• Foster collaboration among districts, educators, consultants, and Nassau BOCES departments to strengthen Social Studies initiatives.
• Coordinate regional professional learning opportunities and cross-department initiatives.
