Job description

JOB TITLE: Regional Sales Manager

DEPARTMENT: Food & Nutrition

LOCATION: Chicago or Utah or Colorado (home office based)

COMPENSATION: $125-175K base + annual bonus + car allowance + full benefits

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE:

The Regional Sales Manager will be directly responsible for sales and market development efforts in an assigned territory. Candidate will be responsible for growing the business in the assigned territory, capturing opportunities at key accounts, identifying key segments for growth, and then developing and implementing the plans to grow those segments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Sales territory primarily in the Midwest and Mountain States, targeting accounts for sales of value-added functionally active food ingredients
  • Customers in the territory will be comprised of baked goods manufacturers, nutritional blenders, nutritional bars, yogurt, dairy, sports nutrition, and the general food/beverage business at large. Some experience successfully interacting directly with key decision makers at target customers is preferred.
  • Visit target accounts; conduct benefit-selling presentations using value propositions based on specific customer situations.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with key decision makers at target accounts, working constantly to improve account traction.
  • Deliver sales growth and corporate gross margin goals in assigned territory.
  • Establish ongoing sales forecast for input into supply chain decisions.
  • Participate in trade show activities.
  • Development of value propositions for use with existing and prospective customers.
  • Collect and contribute data for market research, competitor profiling and customer needs assessment.
  • Maintain and develop a computerized customer and prospect database.
  • Work closely with customer service personnel, food scientists, and technical support reps.
  • Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant information to management, including sales call reports and monthly work progress reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree required. Scientific / technical concentration preferred (Food Science/Chemistry/ChemE)
  • 3 years minimum experience in direct B2B sales of value-added food ingredients or flavors is required
  • Sales ability and negotiating skills, technical understanding of food ingredients and how they work in the body (bioavailability/absorption), proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships, works well independently (capable of working alone in a large geographic area), and in teams
  • Excellent communication skills, presentation skills, enthusiastic, motivated, personable, multi-tasker
  • Excellent computer skills, including Email, Internet research, Salesforce, PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed to perform duties assigned.
