Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated HealthCorps program coordinator to implement community wellness initiatives in Charleston, WV. You will train and supervise college mentors, deliver health programming in schools and community venues, and collaborate with universities and districts across 10-20 sites.

You will recruit mentors, research health disparities, and manage logistics and scheduling while promoting health resources and events in the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate's degree/equivalent years of experience in a related field.
• Recent college graduate with a passion and commitment to the health, education and service fields.
• Experience with, or interest in, serving as a mentor to teens and building and cultivating relationships.
• Passion for addressing health disparities in a community and/or educational setting.

Job description

• Implement an innovative community-wide wellness program in Charleston, West Virginia
• Train, deploy, and supervise near-peer college mentors from area universities
• Deliver HealthCorps programming in local middle and high schools, including health-promoting events, Teens Make Health Happen Club activities, campus activities, and community events
• Collaborate with local universities, community partners, schools, and district staff across 10-20 school sites
• Engage school, district, and university staff, strategic program partners, student wellness officers, and local alumni
• Recruit, train, onboard, and oversee near-peer mentors
• Research community health inequities and measure impact through reporting and tracking
• Coordinate mentor scheduling, supply procurement, and other program logistics
• Directly teach lessons and host educational events in school and community settings
• Support HealthCorps initiatives through social media, events, stakeholder reports, and communications
• Promote health and wellness and improve access to health resources in the community

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate's degree/equivalent years of experience in a related field
• Recent college graduate with a passion and commitment to the health, education and service fields
• Experience with, or interest in, serving as a mentor to teens and building and cultivating relationships
• Passion for addressing health disparities in a community and/or educational setting
• Excellent written, verbal and personable social skills
• Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively in a fast-changing environment
• Willingness to implement new and dynamic programs
• Ability to communicate, collaborate and connect respectfully with people from various backgrounds, identities, positions, and experiences
• Commitment to raising one’s cultural consciousness and challenging oppressive practices
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to travel up to 100 miles within the greater Charleston, West Virginia region
• Available to travel for annual staff training and company retreat 1-2 times a year
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
• Must be located within the greater Charleston, West Virginia region
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle required for frequent travel to area schools and universities
• Willingness to work some afternoon or evening hours
• Ability to undertake occasional overnight travel
• Background investigation and/or reference check clearance required
