Job summary

Westlake Epoxy plant seeks a lead for the Process Safety Program, responsible for developing and implementing goals, standards, and expectations for PSM. You will set tactical and strategic direction, participate in regional HSE teams, and guide initiatives in line with the Vision of Zero for process safety.

The role requires a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with 5–8 years of PSM experience, strong regulatory knowledge, and proven leadership.

  • Extensive process safety risk assessment experience and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient with business systems and process safety technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and set direction for PSM programs for Epoxy and NA region.
  • Participate in Westlake PSM, Epoxy COE, NA Regional and Site HSE Teams.
  • Guide initiatives aligning with Vision of Zero for process safety.
  • Coordinate third-party process safety consultants in NA region.
  • Provide leadership for regional engineering needs across Epoxy sites.
  • Travel up to 25% as required.

Job description

SUMMARY

Function as lead role for Westlake Epoxy plant’s Process Safety Program, including development and implementation of goals, standards, and expectations for the PSM program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership:
  • Set tactical and strategic direction for Process Safety Programs for Epoxy and within the NA region
  • Actively participate on the Westlake PSM, Epoxy COE, NA Regional and Site HSE Teams
  • Keep abreast of Corporate and Epoxy strategic initiatives and expectations and provide guidance & feedback regarding all
  • Focus on the “Vision of Zero” as it relates to PSM incidents - develop and carryout programs that effectively control process safety risks in the company in line with regulatory compliance
  • Lead efforts to improve cost reduction and process effectiveness in the areas of process safety management
  • Direct and coordinate third party process safety consultants in NA region
  • Ability to lead/support other regional engineering needs/projects at any of the Westlake Epoxy sites.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or similar technical degree with at least 5-8 years of relevant PSM experience, preferably in a chemical/petrochemical/refinery environment.
  • Extensive experience with process safety risk assessment tools and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence teams and drive positive change.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and making sound decisions.
  • Proficient with business systems, data management tools, and process safety technologies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job is performed mainly in a control room or office setting. Physical presence and predictable attendance required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires response to audible emergency alarms inside of the plant. Employee must be able to evacuate when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel up to 25%.
