The North Carolina Forest Service is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair crucial equipment for firefighting and resource management. This position requires expertise in mechanical systems, safety regulations, and willingness for occasional emergency responses. The role is vital to ensuring effective resource management and community safety in North Carolina.

Environmental exposures are adverse weather, forest pests, hunters, intense heat, dust and smoke.
Work hours are typically 8-5, Mon-Fri. Some work functions require evening, holiday and/or weekend work. Wildfire & disaster/emergency response functions require readiness 24/7.
Some overnight travel required for emergency response and/or training.
Residency will be discussed at the time of interview.

Employee must operate a state vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training or employer sponsored training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position.
