Job Description: MDS Consultant

We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and long-term candidate to provide clinical leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of MDS services across multiple facilities. The MDS Consultant will support quality care and fiscal responsibility through comprehensive MDS training and support services for the assigned region. You will be responsible for training and program review of MDS services in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Qualifications
  • Currently licensed as an RN in the practicing state.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in long-term or acute healthcare.
  • Minimum of five (5) years working as an MDS Nurse in long-term or acute healthcare.
  • At least three (3) years of multi-facility, regional MDS experience.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to MDS Coordinators through visits and interpretation of policies and regulations.
  • Train new MDS Coordinators in resident assessments, care planning, and documentation.
  • Train on the RAI manual and assessment deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and regulations through observation and inspection.
  • May serve as interim MDS Coordinator as needed.
  • Train facility MDS staff on best practices and ensure coordinated compliance efforts.
  • Lead facility management in developing operational and clinical business plans.
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics and benchmarks.
  • Advise clinical support teams to maximize resident satisfaction and well-being.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve practices to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Oversee quality management policies and data reporting.
  • Assess and recommend improvements for referral, case management, and disease management systems.
  • Ensure accurate resident assessments in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage survey information to address community and partner priorities.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and proper facility operations.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation standards, including infection control and emergency preparedness.
  • Assist in inspection preparation and response, including Plan of Correction.
  • Provide 24-hour emergency on-call support.
  • Ensure proper orientation and ongoing training for MDS personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
